![]() You need to disable SIP, but if you know what you are doing on your mac and don't open/download shady stuff, it should be fine. One of the annoying things for me when I first switched was the way the macOS Finder worked, especially when it comes to merging files/folders from one location to another existing location. I switched from Windows to Mac, back in 2011, and haven't looked back since! Windows Vista was the absolute worst and Windows 7 wasn't much better. Mountpoint – file client for S3 written in Rust, from AWSįorkLift also lets you mount S3 as a drive.`cask "forklift"` for any time I need work with remote / local files or folders. I can assure you, this will eventually pass :) To be fair, far is also not a match to modern file browsers like (forklift), especially if you need s3 integration etc. Far manager was also the first program I'd also install on any box. Heh, I've been there as well a decade ago when switching from windows to macos. I know I have used it for ones that had 1000+ files with no slowness.ĭESKTOP2 – A Graphical User Interface for DOS Finder alternatives for performance? Forklift is what I use though never with that many files in a single directory.I should consider overriding CMD+N and make it really open new TotalFinder window under all circumstances. So for example SHIFT+CMD+N does not open new window, but actual menu item takes precedence. Unfortunately SHIFT interferes with other menu shortcuts. Please note that you have to have unchecked Open folders in tabs instead of new windows in Finder -> Preferences -> General. If you hold SHIFT key during new browser creation TotalFinder will let Finder do its normal job.įor example to open a folder in a new window, you right-click and select Open in New Window while holding SHIFT. I have implemented an escape hatch for people who want to opt-out. It just sees new Finder browser created and at that point can decide to capture it. TotalFinder does have knowledge of the reasons why new Finder window is being opened and who and how originated it. There is one exception, in case of a DMG file, TotalFinder lets Finder do its normal job and does not capture. Finder file browser instance could be a new Finder window or a new native Finder tab - depends on your Finder settings and macOS version. Under normal circumstances TotalFinder tries to “capture” all new Finder “file browser instances” and convert them into tabs. Ok, let me chime in with some explanations. That is, whether TotalFinder is running or not, and whether Visor is running or not, the New Finder Window command will actually open a new Finder window. My limited testing shows that in Sierra and El Capitan, New Finder Window works as expected. If you kill the TotalFinder processes, New Finder Window does work. The difference is that if Visor IS running, then the New Finder Window command will open a new Home tab in the Visor window. Whether Visor is running or not, makes no difference. In High Sierra, New Finder Window does not work at all if TotalFinder is running. This is new behavior, and appears to have started when I installed High Sierra a couple of weeks ago. There does not appear to be a way to actually open a new Finder window. Likewise, Finder -> New Finder Window no longer opens a new window, but only a new Home tab in the Visor window. Whenever I type Command N Visor opens with a new Home tab. Makes no difference whether ‘Freelance Windows’ is checked or not.
